Journaling through the Bible in 2010
A Daily Bible Reading & Journaling Plan
The Bible reading plan comes from the “One Year Bible”1 and takes you into the Old and New Testaments, Psalms and Proverbs – every day! Variety and balance make this plan a winner. If you follow it each day, at the end of one year you will have read all the way through the Bible. If you miss a day here or there, no problem. Just stay with the plan. You can go back later, if you desire, and read the parts you missed.
The Journaling plan comes from Wayne Codeiro’s “Life Journal,” which uses the “SOAP” acrostic.2 Here’s how to journal: After your Bible reading, turn to an empty page in a notebook and enter the date. Then select at least one verse that really spoke to you during your reading and write about it using the “SOAP” approach:
Date: ________________
S – Scripture (write out the verse and reference).
O – Observation (write down your thoughts – what you feel God is saying to you through this verse.)
A – Application (write down ways you intend to apply this verse in your own life.)
P – Prayer (write out a brief prayer as a response to what God has spoken to you through this verse.)
That’s all there is to it! Over time this simple notebook will become a rich spiritual resource, a record of things God has spoken to you day by day.
